The Cevennes and the Mont Lozere are part of the Central Massive and consists of granite and shale. Together they occupy 60 % of the "Parc National des Cévennes".  

Le Mont Lozère
is a huge granitic mountain massif, where nature and cultivated fields form a pure and magnificent combination. It is the offset of the Central Massif, with the Mediterranean on the South. This mountainous area awaits you patiently to charm you with : authentic farms, landscapes, brooks and beautiful rock formations...

The Mont Lozère and the Cevennes form, in short, the ideal region for those who love hiking, nature, history, traditions authenticity, silence, regional products or just laze about...
You can enjoy the many sights that this region offers you: caves, numerous castles, roman churches, la Regordane road, menhirs and other prehistoric monuments and medieval villages such as the well-known village of la Garde - Guérin.
This beautiful natural reserve is also very suitable for all kind of sports activities such as : hiking (hikers will be seduced by the large number of well described and signposted hiking routes that criss-cross the region, many starting at our houses), mountainbiking, cycling, swimming in the river, lakes, or swimming pools, canoe, hang gliding, rock climbing, trout fishing, horseriding or if Randonnee
you wish follow the well known Régordane, or the famous Stevenson track if you like the company of a donkey, and many other activities...
Of course we are willing to advice and assist you. We can lodge horses and donkeys.
La Garde-Guérin and the Gorges du Chassezac : A medieval village from the XIth century, classified as an historic monument and watchtower of the Regordane (roman trade route linking the Languedoc and the Auvergne (Nîmes,Alès, Le Puy). Nearby you will find one of the many magnificent viewpoints into the des Gorges of the Chassezac with various hikes as well as the Roure farm with a square tower of th XIth century.
Le Vallon de Villaret ,

This is a theme park for children at  7 kilometers from la Combette, with very original games and attractions designed by a local artists (also very interesting for adults).

Were the gorges of the Jonte and the Tarn join, you can watch vultures at the viewpoint :"Belvédère le Truel".

A little further away :
a park with Bizons, le parc des bisons d'Europe  and the wolf park : le parc des Loups du Gévaudan.

Langogne : an interesting town of 3 600 inhabitants at 913 m. altitude.
The gateway to the Gevaudan, the Vivarais and the  Velay, were the rivers Alier and Langouyrou join forces.
The old washing place and the Romanesgue-Bourguignol church with  85 granite capitals, are worth to visit.

      Church of Concoules
Mende : City of art and the Prefecture of the Lozère with the gothic cathedral in its midst. Mende offers medieval charms, alleys and remarkable pot-lid roofing.

       The Tournel castle The ruïns of the Tournel castle, beautifal walk with splendid views, near la Combette.

The castles Brésis and Aujac
,  XIIth century not far from Au Portaou : historiens and archaeologists search the numerous underground rooms an make amazing discoveries.

Alès : Prfecture of the eastern Cévennes( Gard) and the centre of the former mining industry. Visit the impressive Mine museum : la mine témoin with 650 m of galleries.
Coal : a riches from the earth...

Alés has a boulevard, public parks and gardens, The library Museum Pierre André Benoit with a collection of modern art : Picasso, Miro, etc.. and many works by its founder.
The municipal museum Colombier offers the visitor a beautiful collection of archaeological finds of the middle Palaeozoic  (300 000 B.C.).

Villefort and it's lake
Villefort is situated in a valley at 500 m. altitude, at ther foot of the first slopes of the Mont Lozère.
Sights : La Rue Eglise, on the "Régordane" with facades of the XIVth and XVth centuries, coat-of-arms, monomlith thresholds, the washing place and the St. Jean Bridge.

The Villefort Lake : 137 hectares of sports activities, beach, swimming, water sports and trout farm.

On the Mont Lozère : the Eco-Museum

The Mont Lozere offers
Wintersports (Alpine and Nordic (Fr.) and hikes with snowshoes (also on the Goulet) or sledge rides with Huskies.
The ski pistes are at
7 kms distance from la Combette, and 20 kms from Au Portaou.
